JAU History
A brief history of The Jordan Applied University College of Hospitality and Tourism Education. In 1980 the Jordanian Government established the Ammon College for Hospitality and Tourism Education in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Labor Organization (ILO), and managed the college for two years. After this two year period the responsibilities were handed over to the Jordanian Ministry of Education. Ammon College began by offering Diplomas specialized in Hotel Management.
In 1996 an agreement was signed between the Jordanian Government and the Jordanian Hospitality and Tourism Education Company (JHTEC) to manage the Ammon College and the training hotel. The college grew and developed over the years; it has now been established for twenty eight years and is still continuing to develop its academic programs, consistent with His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Hussein's vision of developing the Kingdom.
The Jordan Applied University College of Hospitality and Tourism Education (JAU) first offered Bachelor degrees in 2004, together with short courses specialized in both Hotel Management and Tourism Management.
JAU is keen to meet international standards by providing the latest educational materials and deploying up-to-date techniques in curriculum development and topics related to Hospitality and Tourism Management; all courses are taught in English.
JAU is distinguished by its facilities (classrooms, IT-labs and language labs), which are fully equipped with audio and video technology, in addition to special software programs (Fidelio, Opera and Galileo) which are used in the Hospitality and Tourism Industries. Century Park Hotel, the training hotel, formally known as Ammon Hotel, give students an authentic training atmosphere that will prepare them for their future employment in the Hospitality and Tourism Industries.
JAU is also concerned with non-academic issues, and has developed a Student Affairs Department; several committees have been formed to support the students' activities outside the classroom. These programs and activities contribute to the development of the students' characters, in order to prepare them for an independent life.
Part of the continuous process of development for our students has been a new online registration system, which has facilitated the registration process. Furthermore, the College has worked towards developing the skills of academic staff through their engagement in conferences, workshops and meetings specialized in Hospitality and Tourism sectors.
Finally, JAU is working towards achieving its vision of excellence by applying international standards of quality for all their practical and theoretical courses in Hospitality and Tourism Education. This will be accomplished by means of The Quality Assurance Program and Strategic Plan which have been formulated by the university for the coming period till 2015.
