TOUR GUIDING PROGRAM AT JAU

Historical Background:

Jordan applied University College has started conducting the Tour Guiding Program in 1986 till 1990 at Ammon College, then in the period from 1990 till 1996 it was conducted in the University of Jordan. From 1998 till now the program is being held at the Jordan applied University College premises. The number of participants since then was almost 400.

Program Entry Requirements:
 

  1. The applicant must have the Jordanian nationality and a national number.
  2. The applicant must be 20 years old or above
  3. The applicant must be physically fit and in perfect health, and this must be supported by a health certificate issued by an accredited health centre
  4. The applicant must have a clear criminal record
  5. Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in any major or a travel services management diploma as a minimum.
  6. The Ministry shall approve any exceptions that don’t match with point (5) and only if the applicant has a (pass) high school degree as a minimum requirement for those who speak foreign languages and according to the tourism market requirements.
  7. Applicants must pass an assigned language exam (written and oral) at Jordan University, with a minimum of 75%, in order to get the license, thus indicating his/her capability to engage in this profession.
  8. Applicants must pass the exam conducted by the ministry and held at JAU.
  9. Applicants can't be enrolled in the Tour Guiding Program unless the meet the afore mentioned requirements.



The Tour Guiding Program:

During the tour guiding program attendees will be introduced to a variety of courses that relate to History, Archeology, Communication skills, general information in addition to Tourism information and field trips to all Tourism and Archeological locations in Jordan.

And the program is continuously updated for the sake of developing the tour guides profession as a result of the dynamic changes in the Tourism industry in Jordan and the development of new markets.

The Tour Guiding Program Duration:

The tour guiding program requires seven months divided into two semesters, in a total of 450 credited hours that can be raised up to 500 aas a maximum based on the approval of the Ministry. In addition to that there is a total of 14 field trips to a variety of Tourism and Archeological locations in Jordan. The program can be shortened in a flexible manner that should not affect the accredited educational curriculum ( in terms of accredited hours, lectures and field trips).
